Steamboat Springs resident JJ Egloff has worked in the hospitality industry for over 10 years, and he hopes to use that experience and knowledge to help others with his new venture Sleeping Giant Coaching.
“I do performance coaching for professionals for their careers and personal lives,” Egloff said. “It all started after a career of more than 10 years in hotel management and the realization of the help people need in their career to be happier, healthier, avoid burnout and learn to live their best life.”
Egloff gained his experience as a manager of Simply Steamboat, where he led maintenance, housekeeping and guest services operations at Trappeurs Crossing Resort and others. He also served as Owner Liaison for Mountain Resorts, where he acted as the first point of contact for owners living in six different Owners Associations. He has also worked for Carmel Valley Ranch in California as Food and Beverage Manager and as Assistant Outlets Manager for the Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
“I realized that the favorite and most rewarding part of my job in hospitality was actually coaching my teams, and one day I said to myself, ‘I can cut out everything but coaching and just focus on that. . “”
Egloff said his programs are aimed at mid- and upper-level executives, or people looking to grow their careers in the hospitality industry and gain tools they can use in their current leadership positions.
“I would describe my client as the type of person who is burnt out, maybe overwhelmed and overworked in their career — which is so important these days,” Egloff said. “He’s the kind of person whose work probably impacts them in terms of health and happiness.”
Egloff said he meets with clients once a week for an hour, either in person or over the phone. Its services are based on the needs of its client and can help professionals in their careers and in their personal lives.
“It’s basically a one-hour-a-week mandatory meeting, and then it’s really personalized,” Egloff explained. “The follow-up and the accountability that I offer, after that, the meeting is really determined based on their goals.”
Egloff remembers helping a client with a big real estate presentation earlier this year.
“That week we did a one-hour call and established that she needed to do some practice runs,” Egloff said. “So we set up two more 30-minute calls throughout the week, and she got to practice that presentation, so it’s pretty personalized.”
