The MICHELIN Guide arrives in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, the capital and largest emirate of the United Arab Emirates, is a melting pot of cuisines and cultures. As well as being a vibrant hub of sporting, artistic and cultural exchange, the city has in recent years become a gastronomic hotspot known for its rich and varied culinary offerings, from local Emirati restaurants to luxury dining venues – and soon , for its MICHELIN Guide Selected Restaurants. In November 2022, the MICHELIN Guide will unveil its first-ever selection of restaurants in Abu Dhabi, Michelin announced today. This makes the city the 41st destination covered by the MICHELIN Guide in the world.

Commenting on the ad, Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guidessaid: “MICHELIN Guide Inspectors have been working in Abu Dhabi for some time now, discovering and enjoying the rich and varied cuisines the city has to offer, from creative and cosmopolitan dishes to more traditional cuisines of the region, such as Middle Eastern, Lebanon, and of course Emirati. Inspectors have savored the diversity and quality of all that Abu Dhabi’s gastronomy has revealed, and they look forward to sharing their findings with our community of international foodies.

The selection for the MICHELIN Guide Abu Dhabi 2023 will be made according to the proven methodology applied around the world by MICHELIN Guide inspectors, based on its set of five universally applied criteria:

  • the quality of the ingredients,
  • cooking skills,
  • the harmony of flavors,
  • the personality of the chef through the kitchen
  • consistency both over time and across the menu.

These are applied to all selected restaurants to help foodies around the world make an informed choice among high-quality options.

His Excellency Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General of Tourism at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “Abu Dhabi offers an incredibly rich and diverse culinary scene, representing flavors from around the world. Therefore, we are proud and delighted to discover the first edition of the MICHELIN Guide Abu Dhabi in November, which will reinforce our growing reputation as an emerging center of culinary excellence. By sharing Abu Dhabi with the world in this way, we can also introduce a range of inspiring, exciting and restorative experiences that visitors can find at their own pace.

The MICHELIN Guide conveys its restaurant reviews through an extensive system of accolades, the most revered of which are its world-renowned MICHELIN Stars. A MICHELIN star is awarded to restaurants for “quality cuisine that is worth a detour”, two MICHELIN stars for “excellent cuisine that is worth a detour” and three MICHELIN stars for “exceptional cuisine that deserves a special trip”.

Along with the coveted star ratings, the selection will also include the popular Bib Gourmand category, a distinction awarded to establishments that offer value-for-money three-course meals.
